People in the center of Prague express support for public media
The Milion chvilek group organized a protest in Prague against the expedited parliamentary discussion on transferring funding for Czech Television and Czech Radio to the state budget. Chairman Mikuláš Minář criticized the government for attempting to nationalize public media as revenge for electoral losses. He expressed hope for a large turnout at the protest. The coalition of ANO, SPD, and Motorists pushed for the proposal, which would reduce funding for these media by about 15%. In response, workers from both media outlets announced a strike. Opposition parties plan to challenge the coalition's actions in court, citing threats to media independence. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš assured that funding would be secured by law, linking it to inflation, while the Minister of Culture defended the changes as a common European practice.
