Liquidation of the Church Fund? There is a reaction from the Episcopate

On Thursday, the Left party submitted a bill to abolish the Church Fund in Poland, proposing that churches finance themselves. The bill suggests that social insurance contributions should be split equally between the church and clergy. The Polish Episcopal Conference responded, emphasizing the need for solutions that align with the concordat and constitutional principles. They noted that all legally recognized religious groups benefit from the Church Fund, which was established in 1950 as compensation for properties taken by the state. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans for changes to the fund, including the formation of an inter-ministerial team to analyze church financing. A petition committee has also requested an assessment of a proposed 2% income tax deduction for churches, which the government indicated could increase state budget costs.
