The limit of 1.5 degrees of global warming has been exceeded

The UN Environment Programme's annual report reveals that the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C has already been missed. The report emphasizes the need to minimize the extent and duration of temperature increases, aiming to return to the 1.5°C limit by the end of the century. It outlines that global greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced significantly by 2030, 2035, and 2040, alongside large-scale carbon dioxide removal. The report warns that every additional fraction of a degree increases climate risks, including severe weather events. Despite the missed target, there are still opportunities to accelerate climate action, with renewable energy growth and reduced fossil fuel reliance noted as positive developments.
