Lisbon: Avenida 25 de Novembro: next to Álvaro Cunhal road

The Lisbon City Council plans to name a section of the Central Axis "Avenida 25 de Novembro (1975)" and another section "Avenida Jorge Sampaio (1939-2021)". These proposals, put forth by Culture Councillor Diogo Moura (CDS-PP), will be discussed and likely approved in the upcoming municipal executive meeting. The naming of the first avenue commemorates a pivotal moment in Portuguese history, marking the end of the Revolutionary Process and the establishment of a representative democracy. The second avenue honors Jorge Sampaio, a significant political figure who served as Mayor of Lisbon and President of Portugal, recognized for his contributions to urban development and democracy. The current municipal executive holds an absolute majority, consisting of members from PSD/CDS-PP/IL and an independent former Chega member.
