Lisbon, Sintra, Legal Abortion, Vila Nova de Gaia
On Monday, the Portuguese Federation for Life held a colloquium in Parliament to discuss the impact of abortion laws, marking 20 years since the referendum that liberalized abortion. The event highlighted the significant rise in abortion rates, with statistics showing that one in five pregnancies ends in abortion, often due to lack of support for women. Many women feel pressured into abortion by partners or family, indicating that the choice is not truly free. The Federation criticized the indifference of those advocating for unrestricted abortion, arguing that societal conditions forcing women to abort are unacceptable. They called for a consensus on the need for better support for pregnant women in difficult situations, emphasizing that no woman should feel compelled to abort due to lack of assistance.
