Lithuania will have mandatory military service for all men starting in 2032
Lithuania will implement mandatory military service for all young men starting in 2032, as announced by President Gitanas Nauseda. Women will still have the option to serve voluntarily. The decision aims to ensure adequate funding for housing and training for recruits. Currently, over 5,000 young men are randomly selected each year for nine months of service, but this number is expected to rise to around 7,500 with the new policy. The government also plans to enhance training options, including drone operation and collaboration with border services. The partial reinstatement of military service in 2015 was a response to increased threats following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.
