Livre pressures Government on landfill in Valongo

The Livre parliamentary group has questioned the government regarding the potential renewal of Recivalongo's license for the landfill in Sobrado, which expires on December 1. They seek answers from the Minister of Environment and Energy about the conditions for closing the facility, which has faced public opposition due to issues like odors and health concerns. A 2020 inspection revealed violations related to waste disposal, leading to legal actions. Following a fire in June 2026 at the site, which contains hazardous materials, the group is pressing for a safe closure plan and financial guarantees to ensure costs are not borne by the public. The local assembly has unanimously supported a motion against license renewal and for a closure plan.
