Lockheed Martin challenges Portuguese companies to produce parts for the F-35
Lockheed Martin plans to invite four Portuguese companies to propose production of parts for the F-35 fighter jet, enhancing local industry involvement. This initiative aligns with Portugal's defense strategy to replace its aging F-16 fleet, potentially involving investments of up to 5 billion euros. The F-35 program aims to establish a second source for specific components, with Lockheed identifying 17 potential projects in Portugal. Competitors like Saab, Airbus, and Dassault are also vying for the contract, each offering local partnerships. The decision on the new aircraft will be influenced by Portugal's strategic defense needs and NATO commitments.
