Logistics professionals in the starting blocks for e-CMR

Every year, 280 million international transport operations are conducted under the CMR Convention, but electronic consignment notes (eCMR) are used in less than 1% of them. The low digitization level is attributed to legislative delays from the European Commission, which plans to adopt certification rules by December 2026. Poland must adapt its regulations and infrastructure by July 2027. While domestic transport in Poland is largely paperless, international operations still rely on paper documents due to varying EU practices. Companies like Rohlig Suus Logistics and Rhenus are testing eCMR solutions, highlighting the need for secure digital documentation and integration with existing systems. The potential administrative savings from eCMR are estimated at 1-13 euros per document, but challenges remain regarding document integrity and authenticity.
