London takes action: traffic will be banned from part of Oxford Street

A section of London's Oxford Street will be transformed into a pedestrian zone, spanning about one kilometer between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street. Mayor Sadiq Khan emphasized the significance of this decision, as the area attracts around half a million visitors daily. The initiative aims to enhance job creation and economic growth while making London greener and more livable. The project includes the addition of over 50 trees, two public squares, and new lighting by spring 2027. However, some critics argue that the plan may lead to increased congestion and that urgent solutions are needed for pollution and public safety issues.
