The evacuees from occupied Oleshki arrive in territory controlled by Ukraine after weeks without food and medicine
Several hundred evacuees from Oleshki reached Ukrainian-controlled territory after a challenging journey through Russia and Belarus. Led by Ukraine's ombudsman, Dmitro Lubinets, they were welcomed by family members in Chernihiv. Most evacuees are elderly, accompanied by pets, and have endured severe hardships due to the ongoing conflict. The humanitarian situation in Oleshki has been dire, with shortages of food, medicine, and basic services exacerbated by Russian occupation. A recent ceasefire facilitated this evacuation, which was coordinated with Russian authorities. Despite the challenges, the mission aimed to ensure the safety of civilians and deliver humanitarian aid, highlighting the ongoing need for such operations in the region.
