BPI profit falls 7% to 363 million euros by September
BPI reported a 7% decrease in profits for the first nine months of 2026, totaling 363 million euros. This decline is attributed to non-recurring effects, including a previous gain from the banking sector's solidarity contributions and a negative impact from the reclassification of its stake in BCI. Despite the profit drop, CEO João Pedro Oliveira e Costa noted growth in key business areas such as housing loans and savings. The bank is also focusing on rejuvenation by hiring 220 young employees and implementing AI training for staff. Additionally, a new app and account plans, including a free account, were announced.
