Lucy Sparrow, the woman who sewed a supermarket: ‘I create parallel universes made of felt’
Lucy Sparrow has created a large-scale felt supermarket installation in Arkansas, featuring over 20,000 handmade items. The exhibition, titled The Beginning of Convenience, showcases Sparrow's artistic evolution since her first project in 2014. Despite its consumerist appearance, she emphasizes that her work is not a critique of consumerism but a celebration of communal spaces. The project took 18 months to produce and includes various nostalgic elements, such as a video rental store and a recreation of her studio. Sparrow aims to evoke joy and nostalgia through her art, which she describes as creating parallel universes made of felt.
