Macau says it did not withdraw Tom Cruise's film, "Digger"

The Macau government denied involvement in the last-minute withdrawal of Tom Cruise's film "Digger" from local cinemas, attributing the decision to the distributor. The film, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, was set to premiere on October 1 but was pulled due to sensitive content, including references to nuclear attacks and derogatory remarks about the Chinese population. Galaxy Entertainment, which operates the cinemas, stated that film release procedures are determined by distributors. The film's distributor, Universal Pictures, did not respond to inquiries. "Digger" has faced criticism and poor box office performance, earning only $14.4 million in the U.S. and $35.3 million globally against a $300 million budget.
