Péter Magyar: The parliament voted for the investigation of politicians' wealth accumulation

The Prime Minister announced that the Tisza Party supported a government proposal allowing the tax authority to investigate the wealth of current and former politicians. This decision enables investigations into the assets of former and current prime ministers, ministers, representatives, and state secretaries. The aim is to ensure that their wealth aligns with declared income and asset declarations. Investigations will start two years after a politician's mandate begins, or within thirty days for those resigning. The tax authority will examine all assets, including properties and bank accounts, and will also consider family members' wealth. If discrepancies suggest tax evasion or illegal income, detailed audits will follow, and law enforcement may get involved. Monthly reports will be published on the number of investigations, and a public list will include politicians with confirmed tax deficiencies of at least five million HUF.
