Peter Magyar announced the details of stricter scooter regulations
Hungary will introduce a new vehicle category for electric scooters, prohibiting their use under the influence of alcohol and restricting passenger transport. Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced that high-performance scooters will be banned from sidewalks, while low-performance ones can only be used on sidewalks if no alternatives exist. Low-performance scooters, capable of 25 km/h, will have a minimum age of 14, with mandatory helmet use until age 18. High-performance scooters, exceeding 25 km/h, will require a license and helmet, with a maximum speed of 40 km/h. Rental scooters will be limited to 20 km/h. The government aims to enhance safety following extensive consultations.
