"Hungarian Péter is a bit woke, but not enough" – protests for women's safety were held at Kossuth Square
A demonstration titled "Screaming Blue Stockings" was organized to advocate for women's safety following a controversial police email. Activist Edina Hajnal previously called for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, which the government has yet to address. Participants expressed hope for government response, citing recent remarks by Prime Minister Péter Magyar regarding violence against women. The event featured speeches emphasizing the connection between women's and children's safety, and activists called for the repeal of certain regulations. Despite the lack of immediate change post-ratification, it would symbolize a commitment to women's rights and prompt necessary legal reforms.
