Man (72) from Genk hospitalized after attack by Asian hornets: "Can be glad he can tell the tale"

A 72-year-old man from Genk was attacked by a swarm of Asian hornets while pruning a chestnut tree. He accidentally cut down the branch with their nest, resulting in multiple stings. Fortunately, he is not in life-threatening condition. The hornet nest was one of the largest removed this year, measuring 70 by 90 centimeters. The man managed to escape by using a pruned branch to fend off the hornets. Experts warn that this is a busy season for hornet removals, as nests become more visible with falling leaves. Caution is advised when pruning trees, as hornets can become aggressive if their nests are disturbed.
