Man arrested on DNA match on suspicion of raping girl (15) in 1994

A cold case involving the rape of a deaf and visually impaired girl in Sint-Michielsgestel has been reopened. The 15-year-old was abducted and assaulted on May 30, 1994, while waiting to be returned to a school for the deaf. Although evidence was collected at the time, DNA testing was not advanced enough to yield results. Recently, the cold case team re-examined the preserved evidence, leading to a DNA match with a suspect already in the national database for another crime. The suspect has been remanded in custody for an additional fourteen days after appearing before a magistrate.
