Detained protesters learn today the decision of the Public Prosecutor's Office
Protesters detained in Lisbon a week ago will learn the Public Prosecutor's decision today. The proceedings are set to begin at 10:00 AM at the Lisbon Justice Campus. The accused may have their case provisionally suspended or be sent for summary trial. They are suspected of disobedience for allegedly resisting police removal of tents during a housing rights protest on October 20. The protests began on October 10 in Porto and spread to Lisbon, leading to police interventions resulting in injuries and arrests. The protesters claim their constitutional right to demonstrate against police orders to dismantle their encampments. A vigil in support of the detained individuals is scheduled for today at the Justice Campus.
