Protests of Generation Z in India: "A huge gap has opened up between the aspirations for social mobility of the population and reality"

The Indian government led by Narendra Modi faces unprecedented dissent from Generation Z, represented by the satirical Cockroach People's Party. This movement emerged in May as a response to derogatory comments about unemployed youth. Following the resignation of the education minister, the Cockroaches, supported by opposition parties and student organizations, demand further changes. Avishek Jha, a geographer studying Indian youth and graduate unemployment, notes that while India has seen less youth mobilization compared to neighboring countries, there has been a growing expression of discontent on social media. The Cockroach Party has provided a platform for young people to voice their frustrations regarding mass unemployment and lack of social mobility, filling a gap left by traditional political parties.
