Mapping of the ministry: tourist accommodations reach 590,000
As of now, there are 590,291 registered tourist accommodations in Italy, with 506,296 holding the mandatory identification code. Minister Gianmarco Mazzi provided this update during a parliamentary session, highlighting the new Lens functionality set to launch in 2025, which will aid local authorities in verifying accommodations and online listings. The system will also enhance tax flow checks related to short-term rentals to combat tax evasion. Additionally, the European Commission's Affordable Housing Act aims to regulate tourist rentals in high-stress housing areas, a move criticized by Mazzi as a threat to the middle class. A meeting with hospitality representatives is scheduled to discuss these issues and promote responsible tourism practices.
