Mário Ferreira acquitted of tax fraud crime
Businessman Mário Ferreira was acquitted of qualified tax fraud related to the sale of the ship Atlântida. The court found insufficient evidence to support the charges. Ferreira's company, Mystic Cruises, purchased the ship for €8.75 million and sold it for €11 million to a Maltese company, which later sold it for €17 million. The prosecution alleged that the sale was simulated to evade taxes, claiming a profit of €3.7 million was not declared, resulting in an illegitimate tax advantage of around €1 million. However, the judges ruled that the necessary elements of the crime were not proven.
