Massive student-led rally marches in Belgrade ahead of Serbian election
Around 150,000 supporters of Serbia's opposition student movement gathered in Belgrade to demand the ousting of Aleksandar Vucic's ruling party ahead of parliamentary elections. The Student List, a leaderless group of student candidates, aims to end Vucic's 14-year rule. The movement gained momentum after a tragic incident in 2024, leading to widespread protests against corruption. Despite accusations from Vucic of foreign interference, the students remain committed to their anti-corruption platform. Concerns about election fairness have been raised, with reports of intimidation against demonstrators. The elections represent a significant challenge for Vucic, who has dominated Serbian politics for over a decade.
