Matolcsy spoke in a video on Tuesday about why they allocated 266 billion forints to a central bank foundation.
György Matolcsy, the former central bank governor, released a video explaining a 2014 decision by the Hungarian National Bank (MNB) to create foundations instead of distributing profits to the budget. He emphasized that the aim was to strengthen economic education in Hungary. Matolcsy defended the decision, stating that the funds originated from financial transactions rather than taxpayer money. He also dismissed suggestions that the money could have been used for hospital construction or pension increases, reiterating the foundations' purpose in enhancing knowledge and economic policy support. Currently, investigations are ongoing regarding the alleged mismanagement of these funds.
