There is still no passenger transport on the Budapest-Belgrade railway line
The start of passenger transport on the Budapest-Belgrade railway remains uncertain, despite previous expectations for mid-October. While freight transport began in February, it is limited. Transportation Minister Dávid Vitézy expressed optimism about the October timeline but acknowledged ongoing adjustments needed for the Chinese security system to meet European standards. Successful tests occurred in October, but two quality assurance approvals are still pending. The Hungarian section of the railway was built with a budget of 800 billion HUF, primarily funded by Chinese loans and contractors. The government has sought to lift the project's confidentiality, requiring consent from the Chinese side.
