Hankó Balázs's detention has been extended, the former minister will spend Christmas behind bars

The Kecskemét District Court has extended the detention of former cultural minister Balázs Hankó and former state secretary Veronika Varga-Bajusz until February 1. This decision aligns with the prosecution's request, citing unchanged reasons for detention, including serious allegations of financial misconduct and risks of flight and influencing the investigation. Hankó is accused of misappropriating over 17.3 billion HUF from the National Cultural Fund, allegedly distributing funds improperly for political campaigns and favoring certain individuals without proper applications. Both were arrested on September 28 after the parliament revoked Hankó's immunity. Hankó's lawyer stated that his client has provided a detailed defense denying the allegations and asserting compliance with laws and government decisions.
