European stores were hit by another cyberattack, freezers were melted down in seven countries

A cyberattack has affected numerous European supermarkets, causing hackers to remotely raise freezer temperatures. The Delhaize chain in Belgium and Luxembourg, along with stores in Sweden, Ireland, the Netherlands, Estonia, and Finland, were impacted. Reports indicate that temperatures in the freezers were suddenly increased to 50 degrees Celsius. The affected freezers were manufactured by Sacobel, which confirmed that the units were switched to defrost mode remotely. Following a similar attack in France earlier this month, Sacobel's CEO noted that preventive measures were being implemented. Most supermarkets operate their freezers online for quick troubleshooting. The CEO emphasized the importance of secure networks post-attack. The origin of the attack remains unknown, but a similar incident occurred in the U.S. in August, prompting investigations into potential connections between the two events.
