There will be a World Championship in Russia again, the best athletes in a sport can compete in the country for the first time since the occupation of Ukraine.
The 2030 Weightlifting World Championships will be held in Moscow, marking the first major sporting event in Russia since the invasion of Ukraine. This decision by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) comes after the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee's ban by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in July. The Russian Weightlifting Federation expressed pride in being the first Olympic sport to return to high-level competition in the country. However, the IOC clarified that it will not hold official events in Russia or invite Russian officials to its events.
