Melting glaciers in Dolomites reveal cache of first world war munitions

This summer, unexploded World War I bombs were discovered in the Dolomites due to glacier retreat. The Italian army's Julia Alpine brigade removed and defused 250 explosives, including artillery shells and mortar bombs. These relics are remnants of the 'white war' fought between 1915 and 1918. Experts attribute the emergence of these artifacts to global warming, which has accelerated glacier melting. Hikers are advised to avoid touching any explosives and report findings to authorities. The white war, which resulted in over a million deaths, continues to reveal its history as melting ice exposes preserved relics. A museum dedicated to these artifacts is set to open in 2027.
