MEPs back three-year methane delay, triple what the EU Commission wanted

The European Parliament has approved a three-year extension for EU methane regulations affecting oil and gas importers, pushing the compliance deadline to 2031. This decision also applies to European producers, extending their reporting obligations. Amendments from the European People's Party and a group of Romanian and Bulgarian MEPs were included, delaying reporting requirements for EU operators to 2030. However, the additional time will not apply to oil, gas, and coal from countries under EU sanctions, notably Russia. A proposal to suspend the regulation was rejected.
