Matolcsy's 30 million is far from the bail amounts accepted in major domestic criminal cases
György Matolcsy's lawyer stated he cannot confirm or deny if Matolcsy offered all his savings as bail to avoid arrest. The former central bank president was detained on suspicion of serious economic fraud and other crimes, with a 30-day arrest ordered on October 23. During the court hearing, Matolcsy reportedly spoke for two and a half hours and offered 30 million HUF as bail. The lawyer was asked whether Matolcsy actually had this amount saved or if other considerations influenced the bail offer.
