Meta ordered to pay New Mexico $25 billion over Facebook data scandal
A New Mexico judge ordered Meta to pay $25 billion for deceiving users related to the Cambridge Analytica scandal. This ruling follows a previous settlement of $18 billion with 48 states. Cambridge Analytica improperly collected data from Facebook users for political ads, affecting over 2.1 million New Mexico residents. Meta plans to appeal the verdict, maintaining its defense against the allegations. Earlier this year, New Mexico also secured nearly $1 billion in penalties against Meta for harming children on its platforms, including a $375 million ruling for endangering minors.
