Mexico challenges Panama Canal with railway over narrowest part of Mexico

A new trade route in Mexico, the Corredor Interoceánico, aims to provide an alternative to the Panama Canal by connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans via a railway. This route, spanning the narrowest part of Mexico, is expected to enhance logistics for transport companies facing challenges with the Panama Canal, which has been affected by drought and congestion. The project has already attracted European interest, with agreements in place for its use. However, local officials stress the need for further infrastructure investments to ensure its success and benefit the economically underdeveloped southeastern region of Mexico.
