Men with guaranteed places in universities? Colleges want consent

Norwegian universities have submitted requests to reserve study places for men in fields where they are underrepresented, such as psychology and dental hygiene. The University of Stavanger proposes reserving half of the spots in customs service training for men. The aim is to increase the number of qualified male students without lowering academic standards, enhancing diversity and service quality. Currently, men make up only 38.5% of applicants for higher education in Norway, with women dominating many fields. The Ministry of Science will review these proposals by the end of November, potentially implementing gender quotas for the 2027/2028 academic year.
