Microsoft invites 60,000 workers to leave the company and accelerates investments in AI
Microsoft is inviting 60,000 employees to voluntarily leave the company as part of a strategy to enhance efficiency through artificial intelligence. This program targets about 27% of its global workforce of 223,000. Previously, the company had similar initiatives, including a program for 7% of U.S. workers and layoffs of 4,800 employees. Concurrently, Microsoft is increasing investments in data centers to meet the growing demand for AI-related services. Employees interested in the voluntary exit must express their intention by early December and will leave by the end of the month. The company will announce its third-quarter operational results on October 28.
