Residents of Częstochowa recalled the president and city council in a referendum
Residents of Częstochowa voted to dismiss the mayor and city council in a referendum, surpassing the required turnout. The mayor, Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk, has faced corruption charges and has been unable to perform his duties for eight months. The referendum was initiated due to allegations of nepotism, debt, and lack of investment in the city. The city will be governed by a commissioner until new elections are held. Matyjaszczyk claims innocence and attributes the accusations to slander. The city was previously led by a coalition of the New Left and the Civic Coalition.
