The residents of Częstochowa have decided. The National Electoral Commission has announced the results.
Residents of Częstochowa voted overwhelmingly to recall Mayor Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk in a recent referendum, with 97% supporting the decision. The city council was also dismissed, with 96.2% of voters in favor. The referendum saw participation from over 51,000 citizens, surpassing the required threshold. Matyjaszczyk, who faced corruption allegations, had been unable to perform his duties for eight months due to legal sanctions. His administration was criticized for nepotism and financial mismanagement. A commissioner appointed by the Prime Minister will oversee the city until new elections are held. Matyjaszczyk served as mayor for 16 years before his removal.
