Thousands in the streets. Serbian student movement wants to overthrow Vucic in Sunday’s elections
In Serbia, the student movement "Lista dos Estudantes" is mobilizing to challenge Aleksandar Vucic's government in the upcoming elections. Approximately 150,000 supporters protested in Belgrade, aiming to end over 14 years of Vucic's rule. The movement emerged after a tragic incident in 2024, which sparked widespread protests against political corruption. Vucic, who resigned as president to run for prime minister, faces accusations of intimidation and misuse of public resources during his campaign. The student-led initiative seeks to bring about change without naming a prime ministerial candidate yet. Vucic, meanwhile, claims the protests are foreign-funded attempts to destabilize the state, as reports of threats against student demonstrators increase.
