Mini packages, the 2 euro contribution abolished

The Italian government has canceled the planned €2 tax on shipments from outside the EU, originally set for January 2026, due to declining revenue estimates and market changes. The tax was intended to cover customs-related administrative costs but faced delays and was ultimately scrapped before implementation. The new EU customs code introduces a handling fee of €2 per item, applicable to all goods from non-EU countries, regardless of value. This fee, along with a temporary €3 duty, will affect online purchases, with the duty set to last until July 2028 unless extended. The handling fee does not have an expiration date and will contribute to the EU budget, with 25% retained by the collecting state.
