Minister: high-speed train in Spain ran a red signal after traffic control instruction
A high-speed train in Spain collided with a stationary train after receiving permission from traffic control to proceed despite a red signal. Transport Minister Puente reported that the incident resulted in at least 64 fatalities and 80 injuries, with 50 in serious condition. A computer failure at the Urda station around 08:30 AM disabled the safety system for a 63-kilometer stretch, causing all trains to stop. The Renfe train was allowed to continue and subsequently crashed into an Iryo train carrying 147 passengers, leading to significant casualties. Survivors described the impact as extremely violent, with reports of fatalities among passengers.
