Minister Vandenbroucke blocks reimbursement for obesity drug Mounjaro

Belgian Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke has decided not to reimburse the obesity drug Mounjaro, confirming earlier decisions regarding Wegovy. Both medications are popular but expensive, with Mounjaro costing around €179 monthly. Currently, only type 2 diabetes patients can receive reimbursement under specific conditions. The rising costs of diabetes medications have raised concerns for the health insurance system, with expenditures projected to reach €122 million by 2025. The government argues that medication alone is insufficient to tackle obesity, emphasizing the need for comprehensive support from healthcare professionals and lifestyle changes.
