Minister attributes negative balance of 2.679 million euros of the SNS to financing needs
The Minister of Health clarified that the projected negative balance of 2.679 billion euros for the SNS in 2027 reflects estimated funding needs rather than a loss. Ana Paula Martins emphasized that this figure includes investments and is not a straightforward deficit. She responded to concerns about the SNS's financial situation, noting that the 2026 budget already accounted for an extraordinary reinforcement of nearly 960 million euros. The minister acknowledged ongoing budgetary needs for health units and emphasized the importance of management organization alongside funding. Criticism from opposition members highlighted concerns over budget transparency and the adequacy of projected revenues. The government budget proposal for 2027 was approved in general terms, with a final vote scheduled for November 24.
