Agriculture Minister welcomes EU's position on future CAP
The Portuguese Minister of Agriculture welcomed the EU's consensus on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) framework post-2027, emphasizing the need for funding protection and simplified rules. The unanimous agreement reached in Luxembourg is seen as a positive step, although financial aspects remain under discussion. José Manuel Fernandes highlighted the importance of maintaining national funding levels and reducing bureaucracy to facilitate necessary investments. Portugal is advocating for an additional €900 million for its outermost regions, with a proposed national allocation of €35.1 billion for 2028-2034. The upcoming negotiations will focus on simpler rules and targeted support for active farmers, young farmers, and small farms, while also addressing environmental goals and crisis management.
