At least 30,000 animals hit by vehicles in 4 years in Flanders: deadliest road is in Antwerp
In Flanders, at least 30,767 animals were reported hit by vehicles over four years, with the common toad being the most frequently reported victim. Antwerp had the highest number of incidents, while West Flanders had the least. Natuurpunt identified 844 new potential danger spots for wildlife, with the worst being in Kalmthoutse Heide. The organization aims to help municipalities take action to protect animals on roads. Despite the findings, funding for the project will cease, but data collection will continue through volunteers.
