"By the time I arrived, he was already in a coma" – the prison kept silent from the father that his son was dying

According to the decision of the Győr Court of Appeal, the Szombathely prison must apologize and pay 500,000 forints in damages to a father who was not allowed to say goodbye to his dying son. The father did not receive timely notification of his son's life-threatening condition and could not speak with him in the hospital. When he finally received permission for the visit, his son was already in a coma and did not wake up. The court found that the prison violated the father's rights, and the Hungarian Helsinki Committee emphasized that the human dignity of detainees must be respected.
