Mozambique limits the import of ceramic products

The Mozambican government has implemented restrictions on the importation of ceramic products, requiring prior licensing and potentially imposing quotas and fees per ton. This measure aims to protect the national industry and enhance state authority over import processes. The new regulations mandate the registration of importers and prior licensing for each import operation, with fees linked to the minimum wage. Quotas will be established to regulate foreign product volumes, ensuring a balance between domestic production and imports. A reference pricing system will combat under-invoicing and promote fair competition. National manufacturers will receive preferential treatment, and importers must submit annual plans and orders in advance, facing penalties for non-compliance. The regulations exclude certain ceramic imports for domestic use and specific economic zones.
