Monet painting sells for €50 million, setting French auction record

Claude Monet's painting Iris sold for €50 million in Paris, setting a record for the highest auction price in France. Previously owned by the Schlumberger family, it was valued between €22 and €30 million. The sale coincides with the centenary of Monet's death, celebrated by two exhibitions in Paris. Three Cézanne paintings were withdrawn from auction for potential return to Aix-en-Provence. Christie's also held an auction, selling several notable works, including Monet's Edge of the Cliffs at Pourville for €12.7 million.
