Moscow and Kiev targeted by mutual cyberattacks against population alert systems
Russia and Ukraine engaged in mutual cyberattacks targeting their respective population alert systems. The Russian Emergency Ministry's mobile app was hacked, sending false notifications about nuclear threats. Although the general alert system remained unaffected, the attack highlighted vulnerabilities in Russian infrastructure. In Ukraine, the Air Alert app was compromised, issuing warnings about radiation and urban combat, with a message in Russian falsely claiming a nuclear alert. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the breach and reassured users about safety, while advising against clicking suspicious links. Additionally, Belarusian hackers claimed to have breached Russian statistics servers, stealing sensitive data.
