Municipalities will have a line of credit to urbanize land for construction

The Portuguese government announced a new credit line to help municipalities urbanize land for housing construction. Minister Manuel Castro Almeida emphasized the seriousness of the housing issue, which has accumulated over years and requires time to resolve. He stated that municipalities will receive state support, especially if they act quickly. The government is negotiating with the European Investment Bank for favorable credit conditions. Almeida highlighted the need for urbanized land and mentioned the commitment to support the construction of approximately 133,000 homes by 2030, based on local housing strategies. The 2027 budget proposal includes significant investments in affordable housing and public housing enhancement, with a projected economic growth of 2.3% this year.
